Vision and Mission

 Vision

Something wonderful is happening in Africa today. The continent is awakening to a bright and glorious vision of its future. We envision an Africa that is self-determined, self-led and a player on the world stage. We believe the way to achieve these goals is by listening to, and igniting the creative spirit of the youth on the continent through introspective dialogue. We do this by using the media, connecting like-minded people around the world to create the Renaissance Alliance, and through leadership and entrepreneurship development programs. We act as a catalyst to open the dialogue on development and public policy between generations of Africans and their allies around the world.

Mission
To engage, guide and support a new generation of young Africans who are interested in unlocking their full creative capacity in order to transform their own lives and make a difference in their communities. Africa Unbound stands for the development of young visionaries so that they may achieve their highest goals and leadership capabilities.

What We Do

Africa Unbound is building a network of young Africans who are empowered to turn ideas into action to make a positive difference in their communities. We are developing future leaders in business, politics and civil society who see themselves as agents of change. To achieve these objectives we are creating national and local chapters led by young men and women in countries across the continent, a unique mentorship program, leadership and entrepreneurship development programs (currently in development), and a robust communications system.

Our Blueprint

1. Renaissance Alliance
The Renaissance Alliance is Africa Unbound’s flagship program, established to build a constituency 20,000 strong to contribute to the transformation and renewal of Africa. The objective is to recruit 10,000 mentors who will support 10,000 young, motivated change agents that have the potential to uplift communities. The goal is to link young people with seasoned professionals to guide them through the process of developing ideas and implementation strategy for those ideas. This Africa Unbound program is unique in that, beyond the one-to-one mentoring relationship, mentees can tap into the experience and resources of thousands professionals within the Renaissance Alliance’s online platform. Learn more about the mentorship program here.

2. Entrepreneurship Development Program
The Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) supports aspiring social entrepreneurs. Working with an assigned mentor, an aspiring entrepreneur will gain valuable leadership and business development support. Africa Unbound’s Entrepreneurship Development Program is unique due to the partnership we’re building with leading international organizations, universities and centers for innovation around the world. We have successfully partnered with various organizations to create a potent program, which in turn will help build robust economies through creative entrepreneurism.

3. Advocacy
Africa’s most valuable resource is its youth. We believe policy should be informed by the voices of those who it impacts. Africa Unbound’s advocacy work engages politicians and policy makers across the continent in conversations with future leaders. Our goal is to deepen the dialogue and expand the opportunities for new ways to address the issues facing Africa in the 21st century. Through meetings with local and national elected officials, Africa Unbound creates a platform where policy makers and the next generation of leaders can exchange ideas and learn from each other.

4. Media
Technology advances of the past two decades have increased our ability to communicate with each other in our communities and around the world. Africa Unbound is utilizing the latest technology to afford millions of young people throughout the continent and in the Diaspora the opportunity to talk directly to each other through radio, social media, and online and print publications.

In April 2011, Africa Unbound launched the first syndicated radio program on the continent. The main objective of the radio show is to raise awareness that each of us is a critical agent of change and is able to contribute to the development of our communities. A list of radio stations broadcasting the show can be found here.

Africa Unbound’s publications are another way the organization provides knowledge that engages and inspires the new generation to identify their innate talents and strengths. As the old adage goes, ‘knowledge is power.’ Our publication takes an in-depth look at issues facing the continent and the world. The insight provided is a stimulus for new thought and inspired action.

This is the liberation movement of our day.
