Guidelines for Article Contributions

Africa Unbound Magazine is a channel for the critical and constructive exploration of the fundamental factors that hinder and/or promote development in Africa. The ultimate goal is to engage a broad-based readership that perceives African issues, not in isolation, but as being linked to global human concerns and the basic yearning for peace, prosperity and freedom.

While the depiction of Africa by the mainstream media has its merits, it is often predictable and repetitive, largely focusing on themes that center on conflict, failed and failing states, corruption, diseases and poverty.

Alternatively, Africa Unbound aims to delve deeper into those events and experiences that affect everyday survival and progress on the continent. This is in an effort to explore the causes and implications of various conditions, whether they are deemed positive or negative. Africa Unbound aims to foster understanding of the continent from various perspectives representing Africa’s diverse social makeup. To this end, articles are being solicited on the following topics:

  • Current events and issues – analysis of contemporary social, economic and/or political developments in African nations with an emphasis on the cause(s) that produce the specific events/effects
  • History – featuring individuals and events that have had and continue to have a significant impact on the people and/or African nations, paying special attention to motivation and intention
  • Culture – examination of belief systems and traditional practices, including their impact and benefits or lack thereof
  • Ideas – thoughts and philosophical approaches to understanding and dealing with various issues on the continent
  • Spirituality – indigenous and progressive practices of spirituality by Africans in the continent and in the Diaspora
  • Arts – the various artistic modes of expression adopted by conscientious Africans

All articles submitted will be reviewed and edited by our staff editors. We encourage you to include photographs and other graphics as appropriate.

Note: Writers are responsible for obtaining permission to republish their articles, prior to submitting an article to Africa Unbound.
